As a very busy person who works full time in entertainment and is also a diabetic- I have to make sure that I remain both fashionable and practical when I’m on the go. When I first heard about KYT bags, I thought that they were too good to be true. First of all, they are just as stylish and trendy as my other handbags and the quality is incredibly high end. Second, you would never know that it is a “diabetes specific” product- the bag is discrete, which is something that I love when I’m in a lot of busy situations and don’t always want to explain all of the supplies I have to carry. Third, they keep all of my items so organized. On one side I keep my wallet, keys, lipstick, hair ties, etc. and on the other side I keep all of my diabetes supplies. For my super organized brain- that is perfection. The section that holds all of my diabetes supplies unfolds and becomes a tray that holds my glucometer, so I can test my blood sugar easily on the go! I could go on and on about all of the reasons that I love this bag, but I’m pretty sure that it speaks for itself. Check out the pictures of me with my KYT bag and how stylish and practical and works in my every day life!
My favorite features:
- Super chic
- Looks just like a “regular” bag
- High end material
- Separates every day items and diabetes items
- Has an emergency card with contact info
- Makes carrying diabetes supplies fashionable and effortless !
More about KYT:
KYT – short for Keeping You Together – is a handbag line created by designer and fellow T1D Bridget Scanlan. She’s on a mission to make medical, fashionable for people living with diabetes.
“Like most T1s, my diagnosis came completely out of the blue. I was 20 and suddenly had this stack of medical equipment to fit into my life, and handbag (sound familiar?). I looked for something that would keep me feeling organised and put together, but nothing fit. When I started talking to other T1s and realised how many people felt the same way, I decided to do something about it.”
Their first bag, KYT Crossbody launched in May of this year. Already Bridget has sent bags throughout New Zealand and as far as Japan, Canada, UK and the USA. KYT supporters have been full of positive feedback, including one woman who said she’s been waiting for a bag like KYT for 50 years.
Bridget has a fashion background, and sewed the early prototypes herself before taking them to the diabetes community for feedback, consultation and refinement. KYT Crossbody was the most popular style, which she designed based on the gripes she’d heard from others about having to manage their bags, equipment and diabetes each day.
Bridget has taken great care to create a high-quality bag that can last anything diabetes throws at it. Every KYT made supports the leather artisans who lovingly handcraft each and every detail. They’re from a family-run, ethically-waged workroom in Bali. Plus, a portion of each bag sale is donated to Beyond Type 1, to support their global advocacy efforts.
So when KYT’s hanging by your side, you’ll know that it’s made a difference for others, too.
Next on the agenda is to develop more bag styles, including men’s options and bags made from other materials. Bridget is always on the lookout for feedback and loves talking to other T1s, so send any suggestions her way!
